Indy Unveils New Job Numbers
The city of Indianapolis says it has secured more than 2,600 new job commitments through the first half of 2011. Develop Indy says the average wage of those planned jobs is nearly $25 per hour, well above the state average.Indianapolis, Ind. The City of Indianapolis has secured commitments from 33 companies to relocate or expand in Indianapolis/Marion County through the first half of 2011. Together these companies have committed to creating 2,661 new jobs and investing $553 million over the next few years.
"Once again this year our record of securing new job and investment commitments from the private sector is a true testament that Indianapolis remains a great place to do business and is well positioned for the future," said Mayor Greg Ballard. "Our team remains focused on doing everything it can to encourage and support business growth in our city."
In 2010, the city secured a record 8,700 new job commitments from 72 companies and planned capital investment of more than $934 million, which was the best year of the past decade for both new job and investment commitments.
"Companies are still very willing to commit to Indianapolis," said Scott Miller, CEO of Develop Indy. "We have worked with small businesses and large corporations from various industries and their reasons for choosing our city remain consistent. It comes down to our stable economic environment, low costs, skilled workforce, and outstanding quality of life. Indianapolis continues to have a lot of offer."
The average
wage of the new jobs committed to in 2011 is $24.99 per hour as
compared to the state's average hourly wage of $18.71. These positions
are expected to be filled over the next few years.

Company, Advion BioSciences, Pure Power Technologies, Rolls-Royce,
Allison, Slingshot SEO, and Streetlinks are among this year's list of

than 18,500 new jobs and invest more than $1.9 billion in Indianapolis.
