Financial Services The value of the financial services sector is estimated at over $100 billion. The four largest banks in Illinois are LaSalle Bank N.A., State Farm Bank FSB, Northern Trust Co, and Harris Trust & Savings.
The service sector in general is the largest sector of the Illinois economy employing 2.4 million people and one of the largest service areas is Financial Services. Chicago is the second largest ‘‘financial center’’ of the US with over 3,000 commercial banks, 700 savings institutions, 600 credit unions and 1,500 Insurance carriers. The Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange are world leaders in the field of ‘futures’ markets.
